At Citydent Istanbul, every patient has the right to understand their dental treatment in full before it begins. This page sets out the informed consent information for all procedures we provide.

Patient consent form for dental treatments – Citydent Istanbul

Before You Begin

Your Rights as a Patient

Dear patient, it is your natural right to be fully informed about your dental treatment before it begins. This patient consent form covers all dental treatments offered at Citydent Istanbul, ensuring that the informed consent dentistry standard is maintained for every procedure. We recommend that you take your treatment decision after learning the advantages and possible complications of the related treatment. Although we rarely encounter serious complications, it is extremely important that you have knowledge about them.

Before treatment begins, please share any systematic diseases — such as heart conditions, diabetes, blood pressure, and infectious diseases such as hepatitis — and all medicines you currently use with your physician. Your treatment plan will be prepared in the light of this information. This dental consent form is part of your patient rights in dental treatment. Please read each section carefully, direct all questions to your physician, and sign the form if you agree to proceed.

Informed Consent by Treatment

Treatments Covered by This Consent Form

Each section below summarises the procedure, aftercare, and possible complications for the relevant dental treatment.

X-Ray

X-ray films are used in diagnosis and treatment. Patients are exposed to radiation during medical X-ray examination. X-ray is risky during pregnancy or any possibility of pregnancy — inform your dentist and avoid X-ray in such cases.

Anaesthesia

Anaesthesia blocks the nerves that carry pain signals to the brain. Sense loss typically lasts 1–4 hours depending on the anaesthetic used, application area, and patient anatomy. Please inform your dentist of any known allergies before the dental treatment begins.

Possible complications

Teeth sensitivity, reduced mouth opening, transient facial paralysis, facial swelling, bruising, and temporary loss of sensation. Allergic reactions require immediate intervention.

Tooth Extraction

Extraction is performed after local anaesthesia. Bite firmly on the gauze pad for 30 minutes. Avoid hot and cold foods, alcohol, smoking, saunas, and hard chewing for two days. Any prescribed medication should be taken as directed by your physician. If pain persists, consult your dentist.

Possible complications

Tooth fracture, damage to neighbouring teeth, prolonged bleeding, temporary loss of sensation, infection. In rare structural cases, jaw bone fracture may occur.

Dental Scaling

Tartar forms through sedimentation of saliva minerals on bacterial plaque and is removed by your dentist using specialist equipment. Regular brushing and flossing help prevent recurrence.

Possible complications

Hot-cold sensitivity and visible spaces between teeth after treatment — normal as previously hidden recession becomes apparent. Teeth concealed by heavy tartar may appear to loosen once tartar is removed.

Removable Prosthesis

Removable prostheses replace complete or partial tooth loss. Without treatment, tooth migration, bone and gum damage, temporomandibular joint problems, and digestive issues may develop. Alternatives: fixed prosthesis and dental implant treatment.

Possible complications

Oral sore spots, acute infections, material allergy, tooth loosening. Decay can form around prosthesis hooks if oral hygiene is neglected. Food may accumulate under the prosthesis.

Dental Filling

Your dentist removes decayed material, cleans the area, and restores the tooth with a filling material. Untreated decay may lead to tooth loss. For deep decay, root canal treatment may be necessary.

Possible complications

Fracture, filling loss, hot-cold sensitivity, or pain. After filling, root canal treatment may become necessary depending on the original decay depth.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is performed when decay reaches the nerve or a tooth fracture exposes the nerve. The nerve tissue is removed after anaesthesia and the canal is sealed. This is the last option before extraction. Any medication prescribed by your dentist should be taken as directed. Report acute pain or facial swelling immediately and avoid hard foods until treatment is complete.

Possible complications

Instrument fracture in the canal, sensitivity to irrigating solution, increased tooth fragility, or post-treatment pain. Tooth extraction may become necessary if structural problems are not visible on X-ray.

Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening removes discolouration from the tooth surface without abrading or covering the tooth. After whitening, avoid very hot or cold foods and drinks for a few days. Follow any dietary guidance from your physician and avoid strongly coloured foods for at least two to three days.

Possible complications

Mild sensitivity at varying levels is common after whitening. It is transitory and decreases with time.

Fixed Prosthesis

Fixed prosthesis replaces missing teeth, restores heavily damaged teeth, and corrects colour and shape — as a single crown or multi-unit bridge. Alternatives: removable prosthesis and dental implant treatment. Discuss your aesthetic and functional expectations with your physician before the dental treatment begins. Tooth reduction is performed under local anaesthesia. At the final session, the prosthesis is bonded temporarily or permanently as recommended. If you receive a temporary crown, attend your next appointment to avoid detachment, fracture, or underlying decay.

Possible complications

Cracks or fractures in an existing prosthesis during removal. After application: sensitivity, gum pain, or bleeding. Root canal treatment may become necessary if nerve exposure occurs during tooth preparation.
